Mission: Provide quality instruction for approximately 40,000 basic military trainees per year on 21 diverse academic subjects. Employ various teaching methods to include informal lectures, demonstration/performances, and guided discussions. Ensure academic instruction is delivered within established training guidelines. Reinforce lesson with sophisticated state-of-the-art, computer-generated audiovisual aids. Identify and propose changes to lesson plans to enrich the course material and to keep the Basic Military Training (BMT) manual up to date.
To qualify for academics: You have to have been a street MTI for no less than 12 months and be certified in academics. This certification means you are able to teach the classes in the correct format and be able to pass both versions of the academic tests with at least a 95%. At present, there are 22 Instructors. Each week a schedule is created for all classes that need to be taught. Instructors are rotated between squadrons and flights so the flights get a variety of different teaching styles.

These classes are usually taught in the 3rd and 4th weeks of training. On Friday of the 4th week of training we administer a 100 question multiple choice test based on all of their academic classes. Trainees need at least a 70% to pass.
