The FTX Facility provides a 24 hour real world combat scenario. Trainees come away with more self confidence, tent assembly training, weapons handling experience and security procedures. With many of the new airmen going over seas, they now arrive with skills that commander say they need the most.

The Boot Tree (an Army tradition)
We were told that every Instructor that PCSs will throw his boots into the tree as a sign that his job is done
The Low-Crawl pit gets those kids nice and dirty right off the bat so they aren't afraid of jumping in and start training

FTX Instructor, SSgt Michelle Charlie briefs the trainees on their next training scenario

So there are no mistakes - go that way
Trainees have a challenge to complete
Following the written instructions, the trainees have to work as a team to get everyone in their group across the test area in 15 minutes
MTIA members watched from behind - it was great watching the trainees trying to work together with the clock ticking
TSgt Burton and SSgt Pecth observe from the sidelines and watch for infractions
A couple of the teams had to start over more than once and only one team completed the task
For us old-timers, it was wild seeing trainees with helmets and M16s, not to mention the combat training
Learning security procedures greatly enhances the trainee's self confidence
Trainees are taught how to handle intruders and take the proper action to enhance security
Instructors try to get into the trainee's compound and the trainees get very serious about keeping them out
