Hello
My name is TSgt Beck or SSgt Torres and I am an instructor at the MTI School. I would first like to congratulate you on your selection as an MTI and also welcome you to your first phase of becoming an instructor at the MTI School. I will do my best to assist you in preparing you for the challenges you will face upon arrival to Lackland AFB. I have included a map of the base and of San Antonio, which should make it easier to find the school when reporting in.
Upon arrival in San Antonio, you
will first need to report to the MTI School located in building 9225. You should be in any serviceable
“sharp” uniform (first impressions are lasting!) Once you report to the school,
a member of the school staff will get you started on processing. After some initial paperwork you will
be sent to the 37 TRSS/CSS where you will be given eight days of permissive
TDY, if authorized, for house hunting.
At the end of those eight days you will return to the school to begin
training. Please keep in mind
while house hunting, that this is an unusual type of PSC. If for some reason you are unable to
graduate the MTI course, you will be returned to your primary AFSC. If this occurs, your career field
manager will place you where there’s a need. This may entail a short-notice PCS move to a different duty
location.
The school is structured on an eight-hour day with a one-hour lunch. Block I and Block II of the first seven weeks, serve as the foundation to becoming an MTI. It includes academic studies, learning the teaching format, physical conditioning and homework. It will also involve time spent in the squadron with your MTIS instructor learning how to interact with trainees in the training environment. For Physical Readiness Training (PRT) you will be expected to meet a score of 75 on your fitness evaluation. This evaluation consists of push-ups, sit-ups, 1.5 mile run, and waist measurement. You will receive a PRT assessment (to measure where you are) within the first or second week and a final PRT evaluation on your 12th week.
In Block II, in addition to learning the teaching format, you will be evaluated on your performance in teaching drill, dorm, and lecture, as well as guide-on bearer procedures, inspection procedures and control of a marching flight, just to name a few. You will also receive three written tests and will perform PRT at least three times a week with your class. In Block III, the final seven weeks, you will be sent to your assigned squadron to work with a trainer. You will be assigned as the “Team Chief” of a flight and you will perform all tasks associated with managing a flight from pick-up through graduation. You will complete all core tasks on your JQS and prepare for graduation from the MTI School.
Graduation from the MTI School is a formal ceremony where you will receive your AETC Instructor Badge. You can invite family and friends to attend this ceremony. On the Friday following graduation you will be presented your Campaign hat by the Commander of the 737 TRG and the Commandant of the MTI School at the Basic Trainee Graduation Parade. Your family and friends are also welcome to attend.
Upon completion of the MTI School, you will be assigned to a dorm/instructor team in your squadron to begin life as a certified MTI. We are excited for your arrival to BMT and I am available via e-mail, Travis.Beck@lackland.af.mil, Maria.Torres@lackland.af.mil or phone (DSN 473-2487) for any questions you may have.
