The initiative to form the MTIBF grew out of a suggestion at
the MTIA Annual General Membership Meeting in 2005. The members
recognized that a mechanism needed to be put in place to recognize and
honor all current and former Military Training Instructors (MTIs) at
their passing. As the discussion continued the idea of creating a
fund that all MTIs could petition for grants to assist them during
emergencies and other times of need was initiated. Thereafter,
the membership approved the idea to create a fund for those
purposes.
The operation of the MTIBF is rather simple. It
is a fund established to address the needs of current and former
MTIs. Individuals who have not served in this demanding special
duty are ineligible for any type of assistance. Similar to the
Air Force Assistance Fund, the MTIBF will disperse grants on an as
needed and verifiable basis. The principal difference between the
two organizations is that the MTIBF will not loan funds to be repaid at
a later date.
A Board of Directors comprised solely of current and
former MTIs manages the MTIBF. Whenever the MTIBF is notified of
the passing of an MTI, the Board of Directors will ensure a card of
condolence is sent to the next-of-kin. Also, the Board of
Directors will review and consider all requests for grants to assist
current and former MTIs during emergencies and other times of needs.
