Officer Training School is located at Maxwell AFB, AL and conducts Basic Officer Training (BOT), the 12 week pre-commissioning program that prepares college graduates for the professional and physical requirements of service as Air Force officers. BOT commissions over 600 Second Lieutenants annually. The Commissioned Officer Training Program (COT) is a 4 1/2-week program that provides military training and leadership development for health professionals, judge advocates and chaplains who receive direct commissions into the Air Force. COT provides over 1400 Second Lieutenants through Lieutenant Colonel annually. The Air National Guard Readiness Center Detachment 12 conducts the Academy of Military Science (AMS), a 6-week program that provides military training and leadership development for the Air National Guard. The AMS Total Force staff empowers and commissions on average 500 line officers annually. Lastly, the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) is the largest and oldest source of commissioned officers for the Air Force. the program recruits, educates and commissions officer candidates through college campus programs based on Air Force requirements. These campuses include four regional headquarters, 144 detachments and more than 1200 cross -town universities. AFROTC commissions more than 1800 second lieutenants as Air Force active duty members.
